There are multiple searches underway to try and find the characteristics of the stuff that is causing the universe to accelerate as it expands. Astronomers call this stuff Dark Energy but no one really has any idea what it is.

Today's hangout features members of the Dark Energy Survey, an international collaboration of astronomers trying to find out what dark energy might be, along with observing a whole host of other astronomical phenomena like gravitational lensing and astronomical transients.

Our guest is Ross Cawthon from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and he will give us an overview of this project using the 4m Blanco Telescope at CTIO in Chile.
